Via Slashdot, a new way to share files is in development called konspire, currently in beta at Sourceforge. Unlike peer-to-peer networks such as Kazaa, Limewire, etc., konspire automatically distributes content based on a subscription to specific, encrypted channels that are operated by individuals. The system uses a method of mass distribution based on an interesting tree-search algorithm to decrease the amount of time required for file uploading.Update: Here's the encryption key for my konspire channel. If you have downloaded konspire and currently have it running, click here to add the channel post haste.
